Jorge Rodríguez and Dinorah Figuera open talks by phone and set an in-person meeting in Caracas

Jorge Rodríguez, head of the National Assembly and the government's coordinator for the talks, said he spoke by phone with Dinorah Figuera, representing one opposition sector. According to his statement, the first session will cover: care for victims of the double earthquake, strengthening democracy, and political rights and guarantees.

According to El Nacional, the government delegation includes Jorge Arreaza and Pedro Infante; Figuera's includes Jorge Millán and Ramón López. Radio América reported that the State Department's Dylan Johnson said the U.S. "welcomes this announcement." Andrés Velásquez told NTN24 his camp remains cautious; David Placeres stressed that Diosdado Cabello is left off the table.
