Jorge Rodríguez raises death toll from June 24 earthquakes to 4,333

National Assembly president Jorge Rodríguez said on Saturday that deaths from the twin earthquake have risen to 4,333 after 215 more bodies were found, with 16,740 injured and 315 dead still unidentified, according to Semana. CNN reported that an estimated 25,000 new homes will be needed. VTV aired the report at a press conference with international media.

On NTN24, coverage questioned why the official count leaves out people still under the rubble and said the figures have not been verified by independent organizations. The channel also aired security-camera footage of dozens of buildings in La Guaira collapsing almost at once.
