María Corina Machado tried to return to Venezuela from Panama three times this week, her team said, and each time she was stopped: private flights denied landing permission in Curaçao, Bonaire and Aruba, transit points to Venezuelan territory.
Chavismo denied responsibility. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he was unaware of any block, while Machado had told the Wall Street Journal that "it's time to return" because she cannot lead the process from exile.

After the second round of dialogue between the government and the opposition closed, Venezuela freed several political prisoners, among them Justo Pastor Daza, Leonardo Chirinos and Alejandro Torres, held since the 2020 armed incursion known as Operación Gedeón.
Dinorah Figuera, head of the opposition delegation, said the releases are not enough: she demands that all political prisoners be freed, a total Foro Penal had put at 344 before this new round of releases.
