Human rights defender Óscar Morales López released after protest for political prisoners

Human rights defender Óscar Morales López was released on Saturday, September 12, according to LaPatilla, after being held for around six hours by officials of Delcy Rodríguez's government following his participation on September 11 in a mobilization by relatives demanding the release of political prisoners.

Human rights lawyer Eduardo Torres confirmed his release: 'We are leaving the PNB headquarters, Maripérez. We inform that human rights defender Óscar Morales was released,' he said, as reported by LaPatilla. Opposition commentator David Placeres also reported the release of a protester who had displayed a poster against Diosdado Cabello, with Cabello himself making no public comment on it.

María Corina Machado insists there must be elections as she speaks of her return to Venezuela

María Corina Machado said 'there have to be elections here' when addressing her eventual return to Venezuela, according to El Nacional. Opposition commentator David Placeres noted that Machado still cannot enter the country more than eight months after Nicolás Maduro's capture, after two frustrated attempts, and that her team turned down a proposed meeting with U.S. Vice President JD Vance.

Placeres said it was worth examining what has happened in the relationship between Machado and the Trump administration following the oil agreements Trump announced. State broadcaster VTV, for its part, did not mention Machado in its broadcasts those days.
